Me, Julian, Yasmine, Noah, Eric, and Kyle. This was our biggest club yet! No, seriously, this was taken on the last day when 9 of the other kids didn't show up.
Club #2. Jon and I, then Cindy, Aaliyah, Ira, and Ivan. This was the whole club. Rather small, but so was the town we were doing it in. The kids were really sweet!
This was a challenging week. I don't think that SMTS can prepare you for everything. There's no way that it can, because of the variety of children that we deal with. Some are churched kids in stable families, like in our first week. But then there are children like in this second week, when, as I counseled those who responded to the invitation, would burst out with things like "I have nightmares all the time and I prayed to God to take them away but they didn't," or "I asked Jesus into my heart when I asked Him to make my eyes better," or "My brother (or mom or dad) cusses all the time." Definitely not textbook answers!
Pray that I would be given wisdom to deal with situations like this. Pray that that burdens they give me, through their problems, I would be able to cast on the Lord, whose yoke is light. Pray that I would be able to teach them to have the kind of faith that I do not. And then pray for the children: Aaliyah, whose real dad has passed away and her step-dad is in prison; Kylie and Calem's older brother, that his cussing problem would be overcome, and that it would not rub off on his younger siblings, and Kylie and Bailey with their nightmares. Pray for the 18 children I have witnessed to this week. Pray that the seeds would have fallen on good soil.
This is awesome work. I am excited to see what next week, two clubs and a VBS, will bring. Oh, and BTW, happy 4th!

I loved seeing the pictures of some of your different clubs! This week definately sounded more challenging for you and Jon. There aren't really any kids in GNC with similar situations (prison, etc.), so I don't know what I would do. I guess jus lean on the Lord, and rely on Him for answers.
Btw, I love your fireworks picture! I took some when we went, and they look amazing (some of them, anyway). Yea for the fireworks feature on digital cameras! :-)
